STP is Shielded Twisted Pair (STP), a copper twisted pair widely used for data transmission. Twisted pair can be divided into two types: unshielded twisted pair UTP and shielded twisted pair STP. In terms of physical structure, shielded twisted pair has more full-screen shielding layer and/or line-pair shielding layer than unshielded twisted pair. Through shielding, attenuation and noise are reduced, thus providing cleaner electronic signals and longer cable length. However, shielded twisted pair is more expensive, heavier and difficult to install.

Stp cable classification

Shielded twisted pair can be divided into two categories according to different shielding methods, namely SFTP and FTP. SFTP refers to shielded twisted pair, while FTP refers to shielded twisted pair with overall shielding. It should be noted that shielding only works when the entire cable is equipped with shielding devices and both ends are properly grounded. Therefore, the whole system is required to be shielded devices, including cables, sockets, jumpers and distribution frames, and the building needs to have a good grounding system. However, in actual construction, it is difficult to fully ground. Under normal and good grounding conditions, the shielding system's ability to resist external coupling noise is 100-1000 times that of the unshielded system. Even if the shielding layer is not grounded or poorly grounded, the shielding wiring system's resistance can still be more than 10 times that of the unshielded wiring system.

Stp wire and cable installation

The outer layer of shielded twisted pair cable is wrapped by aluminum foil to reduce radiation, but it cannot completely eliminate radiation. The price of shielded twisted pair is relatively high, and the installation is more difficult than that of unshielded twisted pair cable. It must be equipped with special connection and construction technology to support shielding function. When installing shielded twisted pair, the shielding layer of shielded twisted pair must be grounded, but shielding twisted pair in a physical area with a large amount of electromagnetic interference provides a convenient, economic and effective solution.
