VV wire and cable|What does vv mean in wires and cables?

Vv wire and cable

VV cable is a type of power cable. The full name of VV cable is copper core PVC insulated PVC sheathed power cable. The first V is that the main insulation material of the cable is PVC, which means plastic. The second V is that the cable sheath material is also PVC.

Purpose of vv cable

It is generally used as a power transmission hub and is often buried in soil or laid indoors, in ditches and tunnels. The insulation distance between lines is small, without poles and towers. It occupies less land and basically does not occupy space on the ground.

Specification and model of vv cable

The number of cores includes 2 cores, 3 cores, 4 cores, 5 cores, 3+1, 3+2, 4+1; The section includes cables from 1.5 mm2 to 240 mm2, for example, VV3 * 95+1 * 50 cable represents a cable composed of 3 strands of 95 m2 wire core plus 1 strand of 50 m2 wire core, other synonyms.

Vv cable product structure

The components from the inside to the outside are conductor, insulation layer, filler layer, (steel strip layer) and sheath layer. The most commonly used conductor material on the market today is of course copper conductor; The insulating layer and outer sheath materials are PVC, namely PVC plastic; The filling layer is generally made of some soft nylon materials to prevent direct contact and extrusion between conductors inside the cable; The VV cable with steel strip armor is VV22 cable. The function of steel strip armor is to resist pressure and can be used for underground burial.

Difference between VV cable and YJV cable

1. Different names of products have different meanings; PVC is used for VV insulation and cross-linked polyethylene is used for YJV insulation. 2. There are also differences in production equipment and process manufacturing between the two; VV is plastic cable, YJV is cross-linked cable, and its insulation performance is better than plastic cable; YJV only cross-linked the insulating material to improve the heat resistance temperature, while VV did not. YJV cable has a working temperature of 90 degrees, while VV is only 70 degrees. YJV cable with the same cross-sectional area has a large ampacity. The rated operating temperature of VV cable conductor is 70 ℃, and the temperature in short circuit (duration less than 5 seconds) shall not exceed 160 ℃. The rated operating temperature of YJV cable conductor is 90 ° C, and the temperature during short circuit (duration less than 5 seconds) shall not exceed 250 ° C. YJV is better than VV in the long run (long service life, etc.), but more expensive than VV. From the perspective of allowable short circuit: YJV is 250 degrees, and VV is 160 and 140. 3. From the perspective of technical and economic indicators, the parameters of three-core YJV cable are higher than those of VV cable. YJV is recommended to be used in civil buildings. Its current carrying capacity is larger than that of VV. What is more important is that in case of electrical fire, because its insulating material does not contain chlorine, other gases will not be generated during combustion. So the environmental protection performance of VV is poor. VV has been basically replaced by YJV in civil, nuclear and other fields, but VV is still widely used in many industrial enterprises because of its low price.
