Wire and cable AWG
AWG (American wire gauge) is a standard to distinguish wire diameter, also known as Brown&Sharpe wire gauge. The values in front of AWG (such as 24AWG, 26AWG) indicate the number of holes that the wire needs to pass before forming the final diameter. The higher the value, the higher the grade of the wire passing through the hole, and the smaller the diameter of the wire. The thick wire has better physical strength and lower resistance, but the thicker the wire, the more copper is needed to make the cable, which will make the cable heavier, more difficult to install and more expensive. The challenge of cable design is to use conductors with the smallest diameter possible (reduce cost and installation complexity) while ensuring the maximum capacity of conductors under the necessary voltage and frequency.
