The difference between power cables and control cables
一、 The meanings of the two are different:
1. The meaning of power cable: Power cable refers to a cable with a thick wire diameter, usually 3 or 4 cores, thick insulation between phases, and metal armor protection on the outer side.
2. The meaning of control cable: Control cable is a PVC insulated and PVC sheathed control cable suitable for industrial and mining enterprises, energy and transportation departments, and for use in control and protection circuits with AC rated voltage below 450/750 volts.
二、 The precautions for the two are different:
1. Precautions for power cables:
(1) Overvoltage. Atmospheric or internal overvoltage causes the internal air gap of the cable insulation medium to dissociate under the action of a strong electric field, leading to insulation degradation or breakdown.
(2) Overload. Cable overload causes overheating of the cable core, accelerates the aging of the insulation layer, and causes cable failure.
(3) Damping of insulation. Due to poor sealing or installation of the junction box or terminal box structure leading to water ingress, or due to cable quality issues, small holes or cracks in the metal sheath, as well as damage or corrosion perforation of the metal sheath due to foreign objects, cable insulation can become damp and cause faults.
2. Precautions for control cables:
(1) Under the eaves. Standard LAN cables can only be used when not directly exposed to sunlight or ultra-high temperatures, and it is recommended to use pipes. Ultraviolet (UV) - Do not apply cables without UV protection to direct sunlight environments.
(2) On the exterior wall. Avoid direct sunlight on walls and human damage. Heat - The temperature of cables in metal pipelines or trunking is very high, and many polymer materials will reduce their service life at this temperature.
(3) In the pipeline (plastic or metal). If in the pipeline, pay attention to the damage of plastic pipes and the thermal conductivity of metal pipes. The repair of optical cables is very expensive, requiring at least two terminations at each breakpoint.
三、 The application of the two is different:
1. Application of power cables: The wire and cable products used in the power system mainly include overhead bare wires, busbars (busbars), power cables (plastic cables, oil-paper power cables (basically replaced by plastic power cables), rubber sheathed cables, overhead insulated cables), branch cables (replacing some busbars), electromagnetic wires, and electrical equipment wires and cables for power equipment.
2. Application of control cables: Used in computer systems and information transmission systems, mainly including local telephone cables, RF cables, fiber optic cables, data cables, electromagnetic cables, power communication or other composite cables. Shielded control cables are widely used in power plants and power stations due to their excellent shielding performance.
