Low voltage power cable
There are two main types of low-voltage power cables
1) Polychloroethylene insulated power cable
Polychloroethylene plastic is cheap in price, has good physical and mechanical properties, and is simple in process. However, its insulation performance is generally good, so it is widely used to manufacture low-voltage power cables of kilovolts and below for use in low-voltage distribution systems.
2) Crosslinked polyethylene insulated power cable
Polyethylene is the plastic with the best electrical insulation performance, and after cross-linking with polymers, it becomes a thermosetting material with good electrical properties, mechanical properties, and heat resistance.
In recent years, the cross-linking of kV low-voltage cables has become a technical direction, and the key is to reduce the insulation thickness so that it can compete with polyvinyl chloride cables in terms of price.
The difference between polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, and cross-linked polyethylene
Polyethylene: abbreviated as PE in English, it is a polymer of ethylene and is non-toxic. Easy coloring, good chemical stability, cold resistance, radiation resistance, good electrical insulation.
Polyvinyl chloride, also known as PVC, is a complex of vinyl chloride. It has good chemical stability and is resistant to acid, alkali and some chemicals. It is resistant to moisture, aging, and flame retardancy. It should not exceed a temperature of 60 ℃ when used and will harden at low temperatures. PVC is divided into soft plastic and hard plastic. Soft materials are mainly made into thin films for packaging materials, rainproof products, clothing nursery films, etc. They can also be used as insulation layers for cables and wires, and artificial leather products. Hard materials are generally made into pipes and plates, which are used for water pipes and corrosion-resistant fluid pipes, and plates are used for various storage tanks and floors.
Crosslinked polyethylene, abbreviated as XLPE, is an important technology for improving the performance of PE. The cross-linked modified PE can significantly improve its performance, not only significantly improving its mechanical properties, environmental stress cluster cracking resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, creep resistance, and electrical properties, but also significantly improving its temperature resistance level, which can increase the heat resistance temperature of PE from 70 ℃ to above 90 ℃, thereby greatly expanding the application range of PE. Cross linked polyethylene (XLPE) is widely used in pipes, films, cable materials and foam products.
